Personalized radiotherapy in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC): Identification of novel biomarker signatures using xenograft models
In a recently performed animal experiment we showed that personalized treatment outperformed standard radiochemotherapy in multiple NSCLC xenograft models. In the same trial, pre-therapeutic MRI was performed on a sub-cohort to develop imaging based biomarkers to predict outcome.
You will work on samples and data from a parallel cohort to investigate the predictiveness of histological markers and their correlation with imaging data, enabling biological interpretation.
Tasks: Within the project, you will process and analyze pre-therapeutic MRI scans and histological images of mouse xenograft models of NSCLC. You will use histological markers of tumor microenvironment to biologically understand the imaging features extracted from MRI. Tasks will be:
- Histological staining on fixed NSCLC xenograft tumors using established protocols
- Microscopy and analysis of histological images using bio-image analysis methods
- Image feature extraction from MRI images of NSCLC xenograft tumors using automated machine-learning based pipeline (under guidance and supervision of computer science expert)
